Ambulance and Toe Surgery

Me and Elder Arney are getting along great! The past week we have made some pretty funny videos and stuff haha. We have a pretty good time.

One of the videos os we made was at Laura's house on Wednesday. We came over and she told us that her sink was clogged so we tucked our ties in our shirts and went to work haha. We went into the bathroom and undid a pipe and it started smelling really really bad so we went in the back yard and found some gas masks for painting and put them on haha and went back to work haha! Laura then fed us some lunch and it was a pretty great day haha!

Thursday and Friday were pretty normal days. Not too much happened that I can recall.

So I guess I'm pretty good at family history. Somehow people in the ward know because we keep getting calls from them asking for help haha XD. I have no idea what I'm doing but they all think I do haha.

We helped clean Laura's house and she needed someone to fix her vacuum and someone to hook up her phone. Elder Arney was like "I don't know how to hook up a phone" and I was like "I don't know how to fix a vacuum" so it worked out perfect. He fixed the vacuum while I hooked up the phone haha. That's how service usually goes. He usually goes and fixes something and I pretend like know how to use technology haha.

Saturday night was pretty crazy! We go over and visit Laura and at first she was doing alright then her body started to sieze up on her and she was feeling really dizzy and starting to faint. Her eyes were all dilated and stuff. We ended up having to call the ambulance for her. It was pretty crazy stuff and we ended up getting home really late but we told president and he was cool with it haha!

On Sunday we taught Priesthood and it went pretty well! After church we went to Santee because Elder Anrey knew a member up there who is a podiatrist (toe doctor) and would take care of my ingrown toenail for free. So that's what we did haha. I had surgery in some guy's dining room haha. It was pretty sweet. I have a picture but Elder Arney left his bag in Santee so I'll send it next week.

Things are going great though! I love being a missionary! This next week's email should be pretty sweet. Gotta a lot of cool stuff planned

Love you all!

Family History and The Beatles

From 2/17/2015

This week has been great! Elder Arney made me a workout plan which is pretty sweet! He also made himself a workout and its pretty crazy! He does upside-down pull-ups. It's pretty gross haha just kidding XD.

This week we helped a lot of people do family history! On the 24th the youth are going to do baptisms for the dead and we can go now if our recent converts have names from their family history. We were doing family history with Peter and we added his grandfather and dad and it went back like forever and all the work was already done. It was pretty hard but it was pretty funny. When we got there Elder Arney jumps on the computer and starts helping him so I was just like oh ok I guess he's got it. Then like 2 hours later Peter and Elder Arney are both frustrated with each other and they can't find anymore and then Elder Arney asked if I wanted to take a look at it. Then like 5 minutes later I found him a name to take. It was pretty funny haha! Peter was like we could have been out of here in 5 minutes if you would have just done it haha XD.

On Thursday we go over to the Torez Families house and Laura (the mom) has a lot of scary posters all over the wall. She also had this Beatles poster and she told us that she wanted to take them all down so she could put more uplifting pictures up. I asked her if she wanted to the Beatles poster down too and she looked at me and was like "Why? Do you want it?" and I was like ..... yeah... but it's yours. Elder Arney was like don't give it to him haha. But she took it down and said Here. Take it. I don't want it haha. So I have a Beatles picture above my desk now haha XD.

So on Friday I started my no sugar and no soda and working out and everything thing and that night we get 4 dinners. It was crazy! And on Sunday they brought cake and brownies. That never happens haha! As soon as I stop eating sugar people start doing things like this haha. Elder Arney was like hey you should stop eating sugar more often haha.

Also on Sunday we had a Mission President's Fireside and it was sweet! We sang in the choir and they had some people talk about their conversion stories. They showed some videos and President Schmitt spoke. It was really cool!

I think that's it for this week! Hope you are all doing well! Love you. The church is true! BYE!

Great Week!

I have enjoyed this week so much. Definitely one of my most favorite weeks on my mission so far!

This week President Schmitt really wanted us to focus on teaching people not lessons. Teaching to their needs and following the spirit. So a lot of our lessons didn't go according to plan but it's OK because we helped them in a way that they needed.

After P day last Tuesday we went on splits. I went with Brother Day who is a member of the Bishopric. It was kinda last minute and he told us that it's probably a good thing that we called him because he just planned on playing video games all night haha! Brother Day actually used to be a member of the RLDS church and switched.

We went and visited Richard who is a recent convert who just got the priesthood. We asked him what he knew about the priesthood and he told us that he thought it was an initiation to a club or something. Me and brother Day were really surprised so that's what we taught him and we feel like he has a better understanding now.

Wednesday was a really good day. We had a lot of appointments during the day but at night we had some time that we set aside to contact some referrals. The first guy we tried to go see lied to us about who he was because we went and knocked on his door and we asked if the guy was Kenny and he said no so we went back to the car and we called him. It went to voicemail and the voicemail said his name was Kenny. Then the dude called us back and got all mad at us for calling him and knocking on his door. Then Elder Arney called him to repentance and told him not to lie anymore haha XD.

Right after that we were debating whether to go try another referral because it was 8:45 and we could have just gone home but we decided to be diligent and try one more. That's how we met Charlotte. She is living with her father-in-law and her 6 year old son and has been going to a different ward for about 3 months. She already knows the gospel is true and already knows that she wants to get baptized so she has a date for February 28!

On Friday we had zone meeting! My zone leaders Elder Arnsten and Elder Jennings are amazing! One thing that stuck out to me was when Elder Arnsten said that as missionaries we didn't sign up to be movers or gardeners or mechanics or therapists but that's what we do because we love the Lord and are representing him and we love the people we teach. Zone meeting was pretty fun. Elder Nielsen (my trainer) and Elder Harrison from San Diego zone are in my zone so zone meeting was a blast!

On Saturday we went and helped Peter (my recent convert) with Family History so he could take a name to the temple. It was pretty sweet. We added his dad and grandfather and it just filled in like 15 generations. It was crazy. The other crazy thing was that all his temple work on his dad's side is already done so we are going to keep working on getting him a name!

Later that night we had a prompting to go see Lilly and Alice. Alice is a recent convert and when we stopped by Lilly told us that Alice was really sad and having a hard time. We tried to help her but Lilly really wanted Alice to meet with the Bishop so we set something up with Bishop Prescott to meet with her.

On Sunday we tell Bishop a little more about what's going on and he told us that he cancelled everything during second hour to see her. So when church starts we see Lilly without Alice and we ask where she is and she told us that she is at home. We tell bishop that and he tells us that we are going to visit her during second hour still. So we go over and bishop helps her so much. Her grandfather, who isn't a member, was really surprised that bishop would leave church to come see if his granddaughter was OK. He was so surprised and he could feel the Spirit so strong that he told us that he wanted learn how to become a member of this church!

Yesterday I went on Exchanges with Elder Arnsten! He is my zone leader and is amazing. We get along really well and I learned a lot from him and we saw a lot of miracles. One cool one we saw was that we got a call from a member in the ward who had got in a bike accident and couldnt leave his house. He asked if we could go to the store for him so we did and on the way Elder Arnsten gave this homeless guy $5, which was nice of him. Then when got in the store we see this member and she gives us $5 to pay for the things that we had for the other member! It was a way cool miracle!

Later that night Elder Arnsten had a prompting to go visit Dawn who has COPD which is a lung Disease and she is really struggling. We stop by and she is just about to go inside and she told us that she was kinda ignoring them because she had a lot going on. We talked with her for a little longer and we asked if there was anything we could do to help her and she said no. Then I had strong prompting to to share Moroni 7:46 with her and told her to let us show charity unto her. She just started to cry and she opened up to us and she told us some things that she really needed help with.

Sweetwater is amazing! The members here are on fire with missionary work. I have felt the Spirit so much this week it's unbelievable! I know that this is the true church of Jesus Christ and that as you follow the promptings of the Spirit and obey the commandments you will feel closer to your Savior and you will gain direction in your life! Since I have been on my mission I have found a greater love for my Savior and for his atonement and I challenge you all to "go to Gethsemane" as Elder Ballard told us to do and feel of the love that he has for you!

Elder Chris LaRochelle

Jeffery R Holland and Parking Duty

Elder Arneys bump has gone down but on Wednesday he woke up at like 2:00 am and started throwing up so we stayed inside for 2 days straight and he was sick the entire time!

The rest of the week was pretty dang sweet!

Saturday was crazy! The Mormon Battalion was having a festival thing in Old Town and they had some missionaries dressing up as soldiers to march in a parade but me and Elder Arney were directing traffic at the Mormon Battalion. So we had to be there at 7 am to set up tents and stuff for the festival and at 9 we went to the parking lot. Things were going alright but we had to turn down a lot of people because they weren't taking tours at the MoBat so people were getting frustrated and having to turn around and stuff. One guy made Elder Arney pretty mad because he saw that Elder Arney was writing parking passes for people and this guy just drove past him and parked anyway. Elder Arney went and tried to talk to him and tell him that he needs a pass and that he needs to be back in 90 minutes but the guy was like "yeah, whatever" and tried to keep walking. Elder Arney shoved the pass in his chest and was like "put it on your windshield and be back in 90 minutes or I'm calling a tow truck". He was pretty angry haha. Its all good but he is still working on forgiving him haha XD.

After that people started telling us that Jeffery R Holland was a surprise guest and stuff and we were pretty excited. Then we thought about it and were like why would Elder Holland come to a parking lot to talk to people so we kinda just accepted the fact that we weren't going to meet him. Then people started telling us that he already left and we were like eh I guess he is gone. Then like 30 minutes later this guy pulls into the parking lot and was like "Hey, I'm here to get Elder Hollands briefcase and then Elder Holland leaned over in the passenger seat and waved then the car drove away. Me and Elder Arney just dropped our stuff and started walking over to the car haha. So we walk up to the car and just start waving like idiots haha then he rolls down his window and we started talking to him and stuff. It was pretty cool!

Yesterday we cleaned the crap out of our apartment and we actually helped move an old missionary apartment out with the sign language missionaries. One of them gave me a "sign name". Its a name deaf people can give you to shorten your name down. Its pretty cool! Then we had FHE at the bishop's house with a camp fire and stuff. It was a lot of fun.

This morning we went to the temple had a really good time!!! It was pretty cool. The temple workers that were leading our session were greeting us all and I noticed that the name on their badges were Riewerts so i asked if they knew Eric Riewerts and they were like "thats our son". They said that Brother Riewerts told them that I was called here so they were looking for me but who knew that we would meet in the temple. After that someone asked if we could help with sealings and that was the first time I had done that so that was pretty cool!

That's pretty much it! This week was weird we were out of pros more then we were in pros it felt like! Love you and hope you are all doing great!!

Love
